Of boardwalks, back braces and Globes

This week in I Screen land, I offer my thoughts on the finales of "Boardwalk Empire" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," the sneak preview of "Luck" and the always amusing Golden Globe nominations. Read on if you dare.

OK, let's try this again!

As you might have noticed I have, once again, become massively negligent in my blogging. Fear not -- it's not that I love you any less or that my opinions on the TV landscape have become less fiery or strong. It's just that, well, I have a house now. And houses are kind of like kids -- they demand a lot of attention, and a lot of time, and, apparently, cleaning them is more important than writing about "Boardwalk Empire" (yes, even "Boardwalk Empire" episodes that include incest, murder and desperate flights from town -- all in the last 20 minutes).
But I've worked too hard on this blog to let it totally die, so I'm going to ease my way back into this, writing a blog column (blolumn?) once a week on Fridays. It might be more frequent once I get into a groove, but, for now, this is it.
So, this week, I'm going to do a bit of unpacking on this "Sons of Anarchy" finale and write about my massive disappointment with this season of "Dexter."

The Best TV Lines of 2010

We all know the end of the year is a prime time of "Best of" lists. And yes, I am prepping a "Best Shows of 2010" list (hopefully coming next week -- stay tuned).
But this year, I thought I'd mix it up and do a best quotes of 2010 list. I asked for suggestions and got almost nothing from you people. So, I was left to my own devices to come up with a list of the verbal highlights of 2010. I tried my best, but I know there are many things I forgot (my failure to come up with a single memorable line from either "The League" or "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" shames me to no end).
Still, here is my sure-to-be-imperfect-but-complete-to-the-best-of-my-abilities list of the best quotes of 2010.

Playing catch-up: "Sons of Anarchy"

I try my best to stay current with TV's latest offerings, particularly when the shows in question develop feverish fan followings. But sometimes -- more times, in fact, than I like to admit -- shows fall through the cracks. That's what happened, initially, with FX's biker drama "Sons of Anarchy," which premiered roughly two years ago.

FX announces premiere dates

Many media outlets, including the Los Angeles Times' TV blog and E!Online, are reporting that FX has announced premiere dates for several of its fall shows. According to these sites, the biker drama "Sons of Anarchy" returns Sept. 8 at 10 p.m. and the dark sitcom "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" comes back on Sept. 17 at 10 p.m. The plastic surgery drama "Nip/Tuck" will return for its penultimate season at an unnamed date in October.
Of these, I'm most excited about the return of "Sunny," which might be my favorite comedy on TV. Yes, I love "30 Rock," but even that fine show can't touch the brilliance that is "The Night Man Cometh," (see above photo) or any incarnation of "Sunny's" "Day Man/Night Man" musical offerings. The show's fourth season wasn't as good as previous installments, but even subpar "Sunny" is better than 90 percent of current sitcoms.
As for the other two I, unfortunately, haven't seen "Sons of Anarchy" yet, but have all the first season episodes and hope to watch them before season two premieres.
And "Nip/Tuck," ironically, has aged poorly, but I'm still watching it -- mainly because my husband won't let me give it up. For this reason, I'm glad it's slowly, but surely, coming to an end. I'll just stick it out, making the most of the aspects of the show I still enjoy (like the fine acting by Julian McMahon, Dylan Walsh and Roma Maffia).
Meanwhile, "Sunny" is coming back! Greenman in the house!
